Three Things Thursday {the book edition} #4

New year. New me. New you. New goals. One major goal this year is to engage this wonderful blogging community better. What better way than to begin a new link up with some blog friends! Together, the three of us came up with Three Things Thursday. Just three things to talk or write about. Five seemed like too many and "one thing" was like we weren't even trying! So any three things that are on your mind. Any three pictures from Instagram. Three complaints about your day/week. Three of your favorite treats. Seriously. Any three things! So write it. Publish it. Yell it from the mountain tops!

Just be sure you come back and link it up here! For some extra fun follow us on Instagram for some three things posts!

Use the #threethingsthursday, and let's start talking!
This week we have invited Megan from Shaping up to be a Mom to join us for Three Things Thursday. Everyone say hello to Megan and stop by her blog to see some great recipes, promotions, and weight loss tips. Thanks for joining us Megan! Find her on Instagram!

1.  During Christmas break, I was at my brother's place browsing through his Steven King book collection.  I hadn't read a King novel in a while, like back in high school, and thought it would be good to see what I'd been missing.  I noticed this one book stand out among all the rest:  On Writing - a memoir of the craft.  I had heard this book wasn't so much of an instructional manual on writing so much as it was more of a mix of memoir and do/don't for writers.  I borrowed it from my brother that night and finished within days.  That's saying a lot when you have a newborn in the house.
It was just what this writer/blogger needed to read to start the year off.  He made so many points on the life a writer that it made me want to quit life and just write, write, write.  But I didn't.  As I read the book, it made all those points and one very significant one:  I'm not at the point in my life to dedicate that much time to the craft.  That was actually okay with me.  Unbelievable to me that I was okay with that - but I have other priorities right now.

2.  I started reading the next badass book this week.  I'm in need of something lately. Some form of badassery for this time in my life.  I need to read something that will inspire me to be able to do all the things and know how fricken awesome I really am.  You know, a book that will make me MORE.  This book is it for me.  You know how you read a book and want to underline parts of it.  Break out that highlighter?  Well, I did just that.  Except I've highlighted whole pages while crying.  Good happy tears, I promise.  This book is showing me how to put my greatness out there and not be scared to do so.  It's pretty badass if you ask me. (wink)

3. This is going to be my next read.  I had a goal for myself this month.  I wanted to read books that would enrich my life.  January is pretty much over, but it's not going to stop me.  I'll just have to readjust the goal a bit is all.  This book by Jess Baker looks like it's exactly what this mama needs these days.  I want to live an unapologetic life.  I know I don't have to read a book to tell me how to be that.  But that's not the point.  The point is that I'm always apologizing for my size, the way I look, how much I eat, why I'm eating it, and everything else.  I want to stop it.  Just stop.  And if reading this next book will help me at all in that area, well why not just read it, right?

What books have rocked your world lately?  Any good ones on your TBR? Share with me?
